Hi, and welcome to Amigurumi Beginners!
Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting small stuffed toys: round bunnies, sleepy bears, tiny whales and anything else you can imagine. It’s relaxing, portable and endlessly satisfying, and it’s easier to learn than most people think.
This blog started from a simple frustration: most amigurumi tutorials assume you already know how to crochet. We wanted a place that starts at the very beginning and explains things slowly and clearly, without jargon.
What you’ll find here
- Beginner basics: what to buy, how to hold your hook and how to read a pattern.
- Stitch tutorials: the handful of stitches that amigurumi actually uses, explained step by step.
- Free patterns: small, cute toys with every round and stitch count written out.
- Tips and fixes: honest help for the mistakes everyone makes.
Our promise
Every pattern on this site is written in US crochet terms, tested for stitch counts, and designed so a first-timer can finish it. If anything is unclear, tell us and we’ll fix it.
Grab a hook, pick a cosy corner and let’s make something cute together.
